What training is required to become a carer?

Oxford House Community Care prides itself on the training we provide to our staff, whether someone is new to care or an experienced carer.

We have worked with a local training provider for many years who specialise in delivering the Care Certificate Induction Programme over 4 days to staff that have had no previous experience in the care sector. We follow this up with supervised training in the community with an experienced carer and overseen by our area field supervisors. In-house medication and induction training are also part of the training programme. For experienced carers, we offer refresher training, including on-line units and practical elements for Safe Moving of Clients and First Aid Awareness. All our carers are competency checked regularly in the community.

We are lucky to have our very own training room at our offices. We have a theory room and a room full of the latest equipment. We have electric and ceiling track hoists, an electric hospital bed, slide sheets, slings, rotundas, commodes and even several different key safes on the door for the staff to practice with.

For continued development, we offer staff the opportunity to study for a recognised qualification in care, starting with the Level 2 Adult Care Worker Apprenticeship. We provide you with the support you need to complete this in the set timeframe. Many staff want to go on to complete the next levels and this helps with their career progression should they wish to become senior carers.
