Each July, Good Care Month shines a spotlight on the extraordinary individuals working across the UK’s social care sector. This annual awareness campaign is dedicated to recognising the compassion, resilience, and commitment of both paid and unpaid carers who support vulnerable people in our communities.

Originally launched in Hertfordshire, Good Care Month has since grown into a national movement. It now involves adult social care organisations, local authorities, and care providers across the country. The campaign doesn’t just celebrate frontline carers such as home care assistants and residential care workers, but also highlights the vital work of often-overlooked team members, from cooks and cleaners to drivers, admin staff, managers, and volunteers.

The aim is twofold: to increase public appreciation of care workers, and to shift perceptions around care as a career. It challenges outdated stereotypes and showcases the wide range of skills and rewarding roles within the care sector.

More Than a Job: the Value of Care

At a time when the UK’s ageing population continues to grow, the demand for care is rising rapidly. By 2036, one in four people in the UK will be over 65. Social care is more important than ever, not just for older adults, but also for those living with long-term conditions or recovering from life-changing injuries. Good Care Month reminds us of the sector’s essential role and the urgent need to recruit and retain skilled, passionate people.

Good Care Month isn’t only about recognition, it’s about showing that care is a meaningful, respected, and vital career. From emotional support to practical help, carers empower people to live with dignity, independence, and joy.

This campaign gives us the chance to highlight the real impact of care and to inspire others to join the profession. It brings communities together to celebrate the people who give so much of themselves for the wellbeing of others.

How to Celebrate Good Care Month

Whether you’re a care professional, someone who receives care, or simply someone who appreciates what carers do, this is the perfect time to show gratitude.

Thank a carer with a heartfelt message, a shout-out on social media, or a hand-written note. Share stories of outstanding care, post testimonials, or showcase the journey of someone in the profession. Workplaces can join in by organising a team lunch, creating posters, or handing out recognition certificates, small gestures that make a big difference in morale.

By celebrating the people behind care, we strengthen the message that care work matters, and so do the people who do it.
