World Alzheimer’s Day

Every year on 21st September, the world comes together to mark World Alzheimer’s Day, a global event dedicated to raising awareness and challenging the stigma that still surrounds Alzheimer’s disease and other forms of dementia. With more than 55 million people worldwide currently living with dementia, the impact of this condition is profound. It devastates lives, places enormous pressure on families and carers, and overwhelms health and social care systems.

Dementia is now the leading cause of death in the UK, and its effects touch every corner of our society. This year’s theme reminds us that “It will take a society to beat dementia.” No single individual or family can face dementia alone, it requires all of us, from loved ones to professionals, communities, and organisations, to work together.

Throughout World Alzheimer’s Month in September, people across the globe unite to share stories, advocate for better understanding, and encourage open conversations about dementia. These conversations are powerful as they help reduce stigma, foster empathy, and bring people closer to the support they need. By raising awareness, we can help create a future where dementia no longer devastates lives.

Dementia and Alzheimer’s Care at Oxford House

At Oxford House, we understand the unique challenges that come with dementia. That’s why we are proud to provide specialist care for people living with Alzheimer’s and other forms of dementia. Our compassionate and experienced carers offer tailored support to help individuals live safely, comfortably, and with dignity in their own homes.

We know that behind every diagnosis is the story of a person, their family, and their community. Our role is not only to provide practical care but also to offer reassurance, companionship, and peace of mind to loved ones. World Alzheimer’s Day is more than just a date on the calendar – it’s a call to action. Together, we can create a society that understands dementia better, supports families more effectively, and ultimately helps bring about change for future generations.
