On Friday 26 September, Oxford House Nursing Home proudly joined thousands of people across the UK in supporting Macmillan’s Biggest Coffee Morning, the nation’s largest fundraising event for people living with cancer. Families, residents, and staff came together to enjoy an afternoon of food, tea, coffee, and conversation, all while raising vital funds for an important cause.
The highlight of the day was a special visit from the Mayor of Slough, Councillor Siobhan Dauti, who spent time meeting residents, chatting with families, and sharing stories. In a heartfelt moment, she spoke about her personal experience as a carer for her father, and how this inspired her mission to support care homes and celebrate the extraordinary work of carers. Her presence reminded everyone of the deep value of community and the importance of standing together in support of one another.

The atmosphere was warm and lively, filled with laughter, conversations, and the delicious aromas of cakes and fresh coffee. For our residents, the event was a wonderful opportunity to connect with family, and staff in a relaxed and joyful setting.
What is Macmillan’s Biggest Coffee Morning?
Macmillan’s Biggest Coffee Morning is the charity’s largest annual fundraising event, helping to raise millions of pounds to support people living with cancer. The concept is simple but powerful: people across the country host coffee mornings at home, at work, at school, or in their community. These gatherings bring people together over tea, coffee, and cake, while every donation goes towards helping Macmillan provide essential support services.
The official date for the event is always the last Friday of September, though many groups choose to host their Coffee Morning whenever it suits them best. At Oxford House Nursing Home, we are proud to take part in events like this because they not only raise funds for a cause, but also bring our community closer together.
